Rubbish

A constant problem of pollution is the way to dispose of rubbish. No matter what the solution is, there will always be pollution.

Water Pollution
people usually dump them in the waters when there is a lake/river/beach

Causes: people are too lazy to throw it in the nearby bin and recycle it
Consequences: marine life is threatened, plants and animals alike.
Because of these selfish reasons/excuses lifes are at stake

This pitiful seal is trapped by a fisherman's net. It happens because of their laziness. When they go for their fishing and they caught something, the fisherman is too lazy to haul up the rest of the net and instead, cut the rest of it away. Their irresponsible behaviour will cause some unlucky animal like this seal, to swim into it and gets entangled. The animal then struggles until it suffocates without oxygen and die.

This turtle probably would not survive for long. It either gets captured by some fisherman or becomes lunch for predators. These fisherman are oblivious to how severely their actions are affecting the environment and they would not stop.

Air Pollution
Consequences: If the rubbish is thrown in the incinerator to be burned away, it does not contributes to air pollution, but warms up the atmosphere and slowly it leads to ozone layer depletion. Incineration and other high temperature waste treatment system are "thermal treatment".

Land Pollution
the common way to get rid of the garbage is landfill. Singapore has limited land and to use landfill as a solution, there should be a sufficient amount of land. This is suitable for other countries like America and China as they have more space to use as the dump.

Consequences: there will be a lot of land wasted by the dumping of thrash and these lands are unsuitable for any human activities.

These pictures are the construction of the Semaku landfill>>>>

Info by-National Environment Agency (NEA)

Sewerage for the industrial waste of Singapore

National Environment Agency: "Given Singapore's limited water resources, it is critical that water pollution and quality are carefully monitored and regulated. The responsibility for this belongs to the National Environment Agency (NEA), which regulates water pollution and quality in Singapore's sewerage system, as well as inland water bodies and coastal areas. The control of soil pollution is also an important aspect in this regard, given that pollutants in the soil are likely to make their way into the water system as run-off or groundwater. Soil pollution control in Singapore primarily focuses on the use of approved pesticides to combat termites in soil. Further details can be found here."

The National Environment Agency suggests the situation of water pollution to be monitored and reduce the amounts of pollutants. The NEA is in charge of the sewerage in Singapore and inland water bodies. But what would happen if the system were to fail?

Sewerage system
It serves all industrial estates and residential premises in Singapore. The industrial waste are to be of specific standards before being discharged into the sewerage. It is required to install a pH monitering and shut-off controll system as to prevent the discharged of acidic effluent into the public sewer. *the severe pollution may affect the pH of the waters*

Save the Earth by not littering!!!!

Save the environment!!! the world is so much better without being polluted!!!!

further research....effects of wp

There have been severe water pollutions at China and research shows tyhat approximately over 700 million people in China drink fetid water below the World Health Organisation standards. Almost 90% of the underground water in cities are affected by pollution and 80% of China's rivers fail to meet standards for fishing. Half of the nation's population lacks access to clean drinking water. It is a serious threat to sustained economic growth. Thus there must be actions taken to be able to prevent the pollution from happening or improve the situation.. but the problem is how???

These are the effects of water pollution>>>

this are the consequences of our own selfish doings and hopefully there will be less of these.

this is an interesting picture that emphasize that the water pollution that we caused, will eventually lead back to us... KARMA!!!!

Post 3.

Here are our conclusions for this project.
\
Yanwei : I think that it is a meaningful act for the teachers to oragnise such a programme for us. We can like really learn how to conserve the environment and make living a better place for us.

Xinhui : After doing this project,i have learnt more about water pollution and know of ways to protect the water. ^^D

Xinngee : I feel that those polluting and littering the waters should be punished and the pollution affects everyone. Science have never been so intriguing!!!! WOW!!!o.O who says science is BORING???

Eunice : I think that this topic is really good as we can learn how water pollution is destroying the world and help conserve water.

.

Here are some pictures which we would like to show your to emphasize the importance of saving the earth from water pollution ! :D

This picture shows a river that is polluted which contains all sorts of rubbish as you can see that there is a large patch of junk floating on the surface of the water.

From this picture, we can see that the water is very polluted. Perhaps, the water discharge came from factories and industries nearby. Maybe to help improve the situation, the government can implement warnings and fines to them !!! ^^)

Post 1.

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies.
It affects plants and organisms living in these waters, and it's affecting the world and countries around it. =[

Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without proper treatment to remove harmful compounds. D:

Water pollution is a major problem in the global context and many people are affected by it...
In many undeveloped countries, people are using water flowing from lakes and rivers to do their neccesities and that includes bathing, washing dishes and etc...

~Our opinions !
Eunice : I think that this sucks and that if this continues, the world's population will decrease significantly.

Yanwei : In my opinion, I think that we should try our best to conserve the environment and stop water pollution from worsening.

Xinngee : No matter how significant each person is involved in the action of helping our environment, we should still do our very best and strive till the very end.

Xinhui : Other than thinking of more ways to help stop water pollution, we can maybe start a campaign and encourage youngsters to stop littering in the water.
